Babel is a through-composed concert in two sections and is intended for concert facilities housing a minimum of three adjoining concert halls and/or hallways. In each section 3 individual compositions are performed simultaneously by 3 different ensembles placed in 3 different rooms. The audience is free to move between the rooms and in this way individually create their own unique listening experience either by focussing their attention on one room - in which case the other rooms become distant accompanists - or by choosing a spot where the sonic output from 2 (or 3) rooms is of equal volume, creating a polyphony of compositions rather than voices.
In this way the combined output of all three rooms becomes an autonomous composition in it´s own right, a sort of super compositionconsisting of several sub compositions, and each member of the audience can decide for themselves which part of the puzzle deserves their attention, if any.
